Dog sledding and snowmobile tours in Norway - Fulufjell National Park - Villmark Lodge - Fulufjellet Alpinsenter - Villmark Kennel Norge - Villmark Husky Farm
Winter Adventure Tours at Fulufjell

8 day Villmark Winter Adventure

Itinerary:

Day 1, Saturday:
Make your own way either by car directly to Ljørdalen or by coach from Oslo City Bus Terminal or Airport Oslo Gardermoen to Trysil. In Trysil you will be met by our guide. Transfer to Ljørdalen where you will be warmly welcomed on our Husky Farm before you check in into your room at the nearby Villmark Lodge.

Day 2, Sunday. Dog sledding safari (approx. 10-15 km).
The Villmark Husky Farm where your dog-sledding tours will start from is situated just a few kilometres outside the village of Ljørdalen in the hills. Duration of transfer between Husky Farm and Villmark Lodge is approx. 10 to 15 minutes. You start your winter adventure with a comprehensive introduction into dog sledding. You learn the essentials on handling the sled and the dogs. Soon you are able to harness the dogs by your own and to drive your own dog sled with 4 to 6 huskies on a short trail over the fields and through the forests around the Husky Farm. A well experienced musher will be your guide and will be always there to assist you.

Day 3, Monday. Snowmobile Safari (approx. 60 km).
After breakfast you will start your first snowmobile safari into the snowy Swedish-Norwegian mountain paradise. Short transfer (approx. 30 min.) across the border to the nearby Swedish village of Gördalen. After an instruction how to drive and handle a snowmobile we will travel into the wilderness. We travel along frozen rivers through the valley passing romantic red painted cottages and wide-stretched forests. Snowy, purely white mountains raise majestically up to 1000 meters left and right of the trail. Finally we will reach the highlands and travel over frozen lakes and endless highland plains. Once in a while we make a stop to enjoy the great views and the tranquil and breathtaking beauty of this unspoiled wilderness. In the afternoon we return to the Villmark Lodge.

Day 4, Tuesday. Snowmobile Safari (approx. 60 km).
Today your guide has selected again some of the most spectacular snowmobile trails of this area and will travel with you again through the Swedish mountains and valleys. Your starting point is again the tiny village of Gördalen at the Swedish border. Experience the great fun of riding a snowmobile over frozen lakes and endless plains in a spectacular environment. If we are lucky we might even see some moose or other wildlife along the trail. With many unforgettable experiences and memories of a great adventure you will return in the afternoon to Gördalen where you will be picked up and transferred to the Villmark Lodge. Here you will have a great last night together with your co-travellers and new friends reviewing all the unforgettable experiences of the week. On Tuesday evening optional possibility to join an evening horse sleigh tour lit by torches (approx. EUR 49,- per person, min. 2 passengers).

Day 5, Wednesday:
If you don't want to simply relax in the sauna of the resort or by a walk through the village or the close forest there are plenty of optional activities to choose from for today: There are quad bikes for rent for own discoveries (1/2 day: approx. EUR 90,- per quad bike, full day: approx. EUR 150,- per quad bike) as well as snow shoes and cross country skis (approx. EUR 20,- per day). Or maybe you want to spent the day already at the nearby skiing resort Fulufjellet Alpinsenter (lift pass approx. EUR 30,- per day/equipment: approx. EUR 27,- per day). Or maybe you just want to add just another day dog sledding: guided full day tour (approx. 25-50 km, approx. EUR 149,- per person).

Day 6, Thursday. Fulufjellet Alpinsenter.
Today you will enjoy skiing and/or tobogganing in and around Ljørdalen and the Fulufjell Alpinsenter. Here you will find 8 downhill slopes of each level, two lighted slopes, a ski school, Norway's longest toboggan run and about 40 km of cross country tracks. Ski pass, equipment and bob-sled are included. And you may change your equipment (and your style of skiing) for alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing all day long – as many times you like.

Day 7, Friday. Dog sledding safari (approx. 15-30 km).
After Sunday's introductory tour you will explore today on exciting trails the magnificent environment and pristine nature around the Husky Farm and at the edge of Fulufjell National Park, a unique fjell area where even Amundsen trained his dogs for his expeditions to polar regions. Depending on weather conditions and the skills of the group you will drive between 15 and 30 km today.

 Day 8, Saturday.
You depart either with your own car or will be transferred by our guide to Trysil where you will join the coach back to Oslo.

 Please note:

  • This tour is suitable for everyone who has a reasonable level of fitness. An average level of fitness is required for the dog sledding tours as dog sledding can be exhausting for the musher depending on the weather and snow conditions. It might be necessary to assist the dogs when climbing up a hill.
  • This tour requires a sense of team spirit and your willingness to give a hand during the harnessing of the dogs. Together many things can be done easier and faster and while assisting each other you easily get to know your co-travellers and make new friends within the group.
  • Families, children & minimum age: Minimum age for steering an own sled is 18 years. 16 years if accompanied by an adult. This tour is however suitable also for children under the age of 16 years. Children younger than 16 years can then participate in the tour as passenger in the sled of one of the guides. Minimum age for participating as passenger in the sled of the guides: 10 years. The number of children who can participate as passenger in the sled of the guides is limited however to a maximum of 1-2 children per week due to technical reasons. Bookings for children as passenger in the sled of the guides are therefore only possible on request basis. Children under the age of 10 years unfortunately may not participate in the tours at all. Child care can be arranged upon request - subject to availability. Tipp: Parents with children under 10 years may book the full touring for one parent and the extension week (without any activities) only for the second parent. The parents can take turns at the dog sledding tours and at the child care then.
  • Child discount: 0-9 years: 85% discount on the full fare. 10-15 years: 50% discount on the full fare. 16 years and older: 0% discount on the full fare.
  • An insurance that covers eventual damage to the snowmobile (collision damage waiver) is included in the rate. However in case of a damage there remains a driver's liability of SEK 9.900,- (approx. EUR 990,-).
  • Itinerary and touring content are subject to change due to weather conditions and skills of the group.
