Dog Sledding Tours at Fulufjell
4 - 8 days Villmark Husky Expedition - A private dog sledding safari for 2 persons

This is our tailor-made dog sledding experience for YOU: Your individual and personal dog sledding adventure for 2 persons only. Experience an expidition-style dog sledding tour. Accompanied by a carefully selected team of well-trained and well-educated sled dogs and an experienced guide and musher. The lenght and the level of difficulty of this tour is your choice. If you have a good level of fitness and if you have already some mushing experience a tour length of up to 100 km per day and an up to 8 days itinerary is possible. It does however not matter if you are already an experienced musher or an absolute beginner you will enjoy every minute of your private dog sledding adventure and the great scenery you are about to discover. You will steer your dog team and sled through vast unspoilt national parks and nature preserves, through deep forests and bizarre landscapes forming an fairytale-like scenery and over treeless plateaus and hilltops where you can enjoy the unique tranquillity and some fantastic views. Accommodation on this tour is in very basic but cosy cabins or in a lavvo (a typical Sami tent) in the mountains.

Your 4 day itinerary:

Day 1.
Make your own way either by car directly to Ljørdalen or by coach from Oslo City Bus Terminal or Airport Oslo-Gardermoen to Trysil. In Trysil you will be met by our driver. Transfer to Ljørdalen where you will be warmly welcomed at the Villmark Lodge. The Villmark Husky Farm where your dog-sledding tours will start from is situated just a few kilometres outside the village of Ljørdalen in the hills. Duration of transfer between Husky Farm and Villmark Lodge is approx. 10 to 15 minutes. In the evening you will meet your guide and musher who will accompany you on your individual dog sledding experience for the next days. He will inform you about the itinerary and routine of the upcoming tour in detail.

Day 2 (approx. 30 - 50 km depending on weather conditions and skills).

After breakfast you receive your equipment and a brief overview over our Villmark Husky Farm. You will get to know the dogs who will form your team during the next days on the tour. You will receive a comprehensive instruction in handling dogs and sled and the care of the dogs. After harnessing the dogs to the sled and packing your equipment you start your individual dog sledding experience in the late morning. Our Villmark Husky Farm is situated right within a nature preserve and the fantastic scenery with hundreds of years old primeval forest and vast mountain plateaus will fascinate you already in the first minutes of your tour. Just in the same way as the experience to build a good rapport with your dogs and the wild and unspoilt nature will capture you. After today's first leg of 30 to 50 km (depending on weather conditions and skills) you arrive at tonight's accommodation. It is a basic but cosy mountain cabin without running water and electricity [with longer tours today's accommodation might be in a lavvo (a typical Sami tent) depending of the routing of the tour]. After arrival you unharness and water and feed the dogs who have been your loyal companion throughout the day. Thereafter you prepare the dinner together with your guide on the wooden burner or the open fire in the cabin. Enjoy an evening gathered around the fire sharing your most fascinating experiences of today's tour with your guide. He will for sure have one or the other musher's story to tell that evening, too.

Day 3 (approx. 30 - 100 km depending on weather conditions and skills).
After breakfast and harnessing the dogs you continue your private dog sledding adventure the next morning. Enjoy the beauty of this diverse and stunning landscape steering your sled through deep forests and endless plateaus, up on treeless hills and mountains offering impressive panoramas and across frozen lakes and rivers. Experience this vastness and tranquillity of the Norwegian and Swedish fjell areas and enjoy a fascinating feeling of freedom and adventure when steering your sled through this unspoilt wilderness. Return to the Husky Farm and the Villmark Lodge in the afternoon where you can review and celebrate all unforgettable experiences and memories of your private dog sledding adventure around the open fire.*

Day 4.
Depart either with your own car or will be transferred by our guide to Trysil where you will join the coach back to Oslo.*

* Your private dog sledding expedition is available as a 5, 6, 7 or 8 day tour with legs of 30 - 100 km per day (depending on weather conditions and skills), too. Instead of returning to Villmark Husky Farm and Villmark Lodge on Day 3 and back to Oslo on Day 4 you continue your private dog sledding tour for the adequate number of days and nights and return and depart to the Husky Farm, the Villmark Lodge and to Oslo later, accordingly. On these additional days you will further discover the stunning and beautiful landscape of the Norwegian and Swedish border mountains and plateaus - a fantastic area, where even famous Roald Amundsen already trained his sled dogs for his polar expeditions. Discover unique nature preserves and mountain regions. Enjoy the very precious moments with your dogs and experience YOUR unforgettable winter adventure.

The Lodge consists of 10 free-standing cottages (double houses) with 2 private apartments each and a central building with a cosy restaurant with fireplace, wood burner and billiard. The spacious apartments (double house half) of approx. 63 m² are furnished in typical Norwegian style and offer private entrance, 2 bedrooms, bathroom (shower, WC), a cosy living area, TV, fully equipped kitchenette and an open gallery. Apartments are serviced once per week.

Mountain Cabins:
During the dog sledding safari you stay in a cosy but very basic mountain cabin without running water and electricity. The cabin has one spacious room with a wood-burning stove. There is no separate bedroom and you will sleep in your sleeping bag on mattresses.

Camping in Lavvo tent:

Depending on the touring and the length of the daily legs accommodation might be in a typical Sami Lavvo tent right in the wilderness instead of in a mountain cabin. There are no sanitary facilities available then. The Lavvo tent is a spacious tent with a fireplace in the middle. You will overnight altogether in the tent in sleeping bags on mattrasses around the fireplace.

Please note:

  • Level: moderate / difficult (as agreed upon at time of booking). A good level of fitness is required as dog-sledding can be quite exhausting for the musher himself depending on the weather and snow conditions. It might be necessary to assist the dogs when climbing up a hill. Length of the legs between 30 km and 100 km per day (as agreed upon at time of booking).
  • This tour requires a sense of team spirit and your willingness to give a hand during the harnessing of the dogs. On this tour you are on a “genuine” safari/expedition. That means that you will be responsible for your assigned dogs and need to assist your guide in feeding and care of the dogs.
  • The meals during the overnight safari will be simpler than during the rest of your stay as the food has to be carried on the sleds and has to be prepared on the wood-burning stove by the participants.
  • Children & Minimum age: Minimum age for steering an own sled is 18 years. 16 years if accompanied by an adult.
  • Child discount: no child discount for children of 16 years and older (see information about minimum age above)
  • Itinerary and touring content are subject to change due to weather conditions and skills of the group.
