8 day Villmark Summer Adventure

Wilderness is calling. The Villmark Lodge at Ljørdalen is the perfect base to discover the stunning scenery and unspoilt wilderness of the Fulufjell National Park right at the Norwegian-Swedish border. Our adventure week combines many great outdoor activities that are also suitable for people with restricted mobility and provide many unforgettable experiences.

 Itinerary:

Day 1, Saturday: Make your own way either by car directly to Ljørdalen or by coach from Oslo City Bus Terminal or Airport Oslo Gardermoen to Trysil. In Trysil you will be met by our driver. Transfer to Ljørdalen where you will be warmly welcomed at the Villmark Lodge

Day 2 Sunday: We depart on a full day guided canoeing trip on the Ljøra river. Just behind the Villmark Lodge we will board the canoes and start the tour. Our boats are air filled canoes providing a maximum of safety and comfortable high-pressure seats with backrest that allow to travel even longer distances and enough space for up to 3 persons and their luggage. Once on the river enjoy the amazing tranquillity and the beautiful scenery. We paddle through immense forests, pass by lush meadows, vast grasslands and picturesque little red houses and discover remote beaches and bays. Some rapids which are easy to navigate will provide additional fun and excitement. Return to Villmark Lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Sunday: Today we spend rafting on the Ljøra river. It starts with assembling our catamaran rafts altogether. If everybody gives a hand it is soon done. The rafts have a big wooden platform which is assembled on two air filled hull floaters and provides plenty of space to hold a small group of people each. We journey downstream along the edge of the Fulufjell National Park towards the Swedish border. If you are lucky you might already today get a chance to observe some of the Nordic animals such as moose or beaver that love to hide on the tranquil banks of the river from aboard your catamaran raft. Return transfer to Villmark Lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 4, Tuesday. Day at leisure until late afternoon. You may choose to relax at Villmark Lodge (e.g. enjoying the sauna) or discover the village on your own. After dinner between 5 and 6 p.m. we depart on our Nordic wildlife & moose safari by bus or jeep. We will explore the wilderness on the traces of the exotic and precious Nordic wildlife. Your guide knows most hideaways of the shy animals. With a bit of luck you will be able to observe deer, lynx, fox and badger, golden eagle, different species of owls and other large forest birds tonight. There are also some excellent chances to encounter some moose since the forests between Trysil and Ljørdalen are home of one of Norway's largest moose populations. Return to Villmark Lodge around midnight.

Day 5, Wednesday. After breakfast transfer to the Swedish border. It is just a short drive as it is located only 19 km from Ljørdalen. Today's destination is the Flersjøn lake system where three lakes are connected with each other by a beautiful river-like system creating a paradise for canoeing. Enjoy the day discovering
beautiful bays, small islands and hidden beaches. Return transfer to Villmark Lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 6, Thursday. Today it’s a day at leisure. If you do not want to simply relax you may explore the village of Ljørdalen or might be interested in an excursion to the small open air museum of Trysil which is Norway’s oldest rural museum, founded in 1901 (not included).

Day 7, Friday. One of Southern Norway's largest Husky Farms is situated in Ljørdalen. The dogs must be trained also during the summer season by using purpose built husky carriages that are extremely safe against tipping over and very easy to handle. Today you will meet the friendly and well-trained huskies and get a short introduction into how to handle the carriage. Then you will drive your own carriage with a team of 2 – 4 huskies on small forest roads through a wonderful environment of majestic forests, lush meadows and picturesque lakes. Farewell barbecue dinner in a typical Samí Lavvo tent.

Day 8, Saturday. Departure.
You depart either with your own car or will be transferred by our guide to Trysil where you will join the coach back to Oslo.
