8 day Villmark Skiing & Adventure Week

Discover the rich diversity in spectacular scenery and great activities of the Nordic winter during our skiing and adventure week! Explore some breathtaking trails providing stunning views by snowmobile and especially designed handicap dog sled that you will drive all by your own. Experience the fun of Nordic and alpine skiing with especially developed cross country sleds and alpine mono skis during some ski instructions held by Olympic gold medal winner and world champion Karl Einar Henriksen. A Norwegian winter's tale awaits you!

Itinerary:

Day 1, Saturday:
Make your own way either by car directly to Ljørdalen or by coach from Oslo City Bus Terminal or Airport Oslo Gardermoen to Trysil. In Trysil you will be met by our driver. Transfer to Ljørdalen where you will be warmly welcomed at the Villmark Lodge. The Villmark Husky Farm where your dog-sledding tours will start from is situated just a few kilometres outside the village of Ljørdalen in the hills. Duration of transfer between Husky Farm and Villmark Lodge is approx. 10 to 15 minutes.

Day 2, Sunday: Dog Sledding Safari (approx. 10- 15 km ).
Your winter adventure week starts with a comprehensive introduction into dog sledding and you will be able to familiarize yourself with the dogs. You will learn all about training and care of the dogs as well as the handling of the dogs and the purpose built handicap sled that is extremely safe against tipping. Soon you will be able to drive your “own” dog sledding team of 2 – 4 huskies all by yourself on a short tour through the wonderful winter scenery. Our guides are always there to assist you.

Day 3, Monday: Dog Sledding Safari (ca. 15- 30 km ).
After yesterday's short introduction touring you will today explore the stunning scenery on a longer tour. You will drive your dog sled through a region rich of diversity where even Amundsen trained his dogs for his polar expeditions. Enjoy the adventure of dog sledding and the great views while passing majestic forests and crossing frozen lakes and endless tablelands. Depending on the weather conditions and the skills of the participants today's tour will have a length of 15 – 30 km .

Day 4, Tuesday. Skiing Instruction Course Nordic Style.
Karl Einar Henriksen, Norwegian double gold medal winner of the Paralympic Games in Nagano and world champion Nordic Style will be your instructor on today's skiing instruction course Nordic Style using a cross country sled who was especially designed for people with restricted mobility. On a short tour on well prepared trails you will experience the fun of cross country skiing.

Day 5 and 6, Wednesday and Thursday. Skiing Instruction Course Alpine Style.
The next two days you change style by participating in a skiing instruction course in alpine style at the Fulufjellet Alpinsenter also held by Karl Einar Henriksen. Using a purpose built handicap mono-ski you will discover the joy of alpine skiing. The easy and moderate slopes at the Fulufjellet Alpinsenter are the ideal spot for such an instruction course.

Day 7, Friday. Snowmobile Safari.
Another highlight of the week: Experience the fun of snowmobiling. Following a short transfer by bus to the nearby village of Gördalen which is already situated across the Swedish border you will receive a brief introduction in the handling of a snowmobile. Without external help you will then drive your own snowmobile on a short tour through the spectacular winter scenery. Enjoy the great panorama on both sides of the trail.

Day 8, Saturday:
You depart either with your own car or will be transferred by our guide to Trysil where you will join the coach back to Oslo.

In other units (double house halves) mobile facilities such as mobile ramps for the entrance or shower wheelchairs are provided. Between the rooms in those units there are however thresholds of a few cm height between the rooms. At the entrance of the main building there is a small ridge of about 10 cm height. A mobile ramp can be installed here, too, if required.

Please note:

  • Requirements: In order to participate in all our activities a full psychic and physical function of head and arms is required. The tours are not suitable for people with any kind of psychic handicap. If you have any doubt about fulfilling our requirements please do not hesitate to contact us. We are pleased to assist you and to answer all your questions.
  • It is our personal concern to operate tours / activities for disabled together with non-handicapped people. In particular our dog sledding tours are operated together with non-handicaps. Guests with or without disabilities stay together in the same accommodation, the Villmark Lodge. Due to the special character of the skiing instruction courses and the snowmobile safari these activities however will be operated only for handicaps. Guests accompanying handicaps can choose to participate in these activities designed for handicaps (skiing equipment in Nordic and alpine style included).
  • The tours will be adjusted in length and grade to the skills of the participants.
  • Minimum age: 18 years. 16 years if accompanied by an adult.
  • All tours, all facilities and the whole equipment (sleds etc.) have been developed in close cooperation with handicapped people and are constantly tested by handicaps themselves if they are built to the needs of and are suitable for disabled people.
  • An insurance that covers eventual damage to the snowmobile (collision damage waiver) is included in the rate. However in case of a damage there remains a driver’s liability of SEK 9.900,- (approx. EUR 990,-).
  • Itinerary and touring content are subject to change due to weather conditions and skills of the group.
