The forests and plateaus of Ljørdalen and Fulufjäll National Park are the home of southern Norway's largest population of brown bear. Over many years the migration of the brown bears have been studied and recorded in this area. According these records you have a chance of more than 60 % to encounter a brown bear in the wild in this area at springtime.
Springtime however is not only best season for bear watching but also the mating season of the big forest birds. You will be able to watch the impressive and graceful behaviour of wood, black and snow grouse during the courtship and mating. It's an exciting experience when plateaus and clearings become alive with flocks of the big forest birds at dawn.
The forests of and around Fulufjäll National Park are also home of lynx, wolf and fox. If you are lucky you might even get a chance to encounter one of these shy animals during your stay.
